Title:Â GUBIANAS, PRECISION AND SENSITIVITY

GUBIANAS, PRECISION AND SENSITIVITY
There are those who back up the idea that precision must be dry; who are fascinated by an Stendhal and its so-called civil code style (“extra-dry†is the way it is called by the gullible) and other conceits with no openness, nor simplicity.
These are the same people that fervently theorise and argue that sensitivity is something that is soft and floating, something which is hazy and overly sweet.
I denied the aforementioned arbitrary and gratuitous suppositions when I viewed a unique collection of drawings and watercolours showed by Jaime Gubianas, a very young artist, whose work -energetically fine and delicately soft- I regard as a sensational model.
Last summer, I spent by chance some days with Jaime Gubianas. It was in Cerdaña, a region plenty of not only beautiful, but also difficult landscapes to capture in a canvas. In lead, he caught the mountains and the prairies from that scenery as no one else had ever done before.
I had never seen so accurate a drawing of a gleaming green line of trees and the roofs made of thin slate -“de fine ardoise†that Charles Du Bellay would nostalgically sing when he evoked his home place, in Loire.
Those precise and sensitive wonders illustrate the book I am writing under the title of Mi Cerdaña, enamelled by the turquoises and rubies surviving in my heart. In that valuable, though limited exhibition taking place in one of the small galleries of the Fine Art School of Sabadell, Gubianas reveals himself as an animalist and flowery draftsman, who reminds us of Durero and other great artists from the Far East.
The bird –green, grey and yellow colour- lying exhausted with great tenderness and his beak pointing at the sky. The wonderful violets of sublime purple are like a constellation of humbleness and perfume, which enhances the immaculate whiteness. The thistle’s bud is phosphorescent and it is impregnated with accuracy and poetry. All these value Jaime Gubianas as one of the most precise and sensitive artists in these days.

JAUME GUBIANAS.
In the small hall of the same building, young Jaume Gubianas’ drawing collection, which is delicate, subtle and academic -and maybe for that cold-, offers the contrast with the disquieting impression of the big hall.
According to some references, Jaume Gubianas is young and his link to school is a good start regarding the artistic production, as long as his inner genius makes the most of the resources of the technique already assimilated in order to display it externally.
As far as his production is concerned, the drawer is extremely correct and fine, who does not lack soul, which makes the drawer’s creation be worthy of authentic interest as well as sincere encouragement.

Title: GUBIANAS’S WILD THOUGHTS
Author: J. Mª. JUNOY
GUBIANAS’S WILD THOUGHTS
I can remember two different masterpieces from Gubiana’s last exhibition, which were lined and coloured in a very precise and soft way by such a tenacious and sensitive artist. One of those depicted a bird lying on the floor showing its green, grey and yellow plumage. The second of those depicted three simple violets untied one from the other, coloured with a very aromatic purple. These two escape from the detailed and profound watercolours painted by Alberto Durero, though they are very similar as far as the inspirational topic is concerned.
The young artist has just shown me a series of recently created drawings, which depict many different wild thoughts.
That flower belongs to that type of flowers with no perfume, whose inner scent can be breathed and appreciated in our soul. I paid much attention in excitement to the neat sheets of paper, in which Gubianas had made his thoughts become vegetation thanks to his pencil and paintbrush.
There were flowers with big and small corollas and with shinning yellow petals. I was surprised at the fact that I had never noticed before the beauty of one of the flowers of yellowish colour over a pink background. And I celebrated and admired Gubianas’s detailed and fine art of interpreting and depicting the reality he perceives, due to his virtuous manner of expounding a trivial object, bearing in mind the difficulty of deciding on a topic like this in such an honest and innovative way. We should not forget about how difficult is to create poetry and to draw a picture all at the same time, without giving way to fussiness and absurdity.

CERDAí‘A, A HEARTBEAT AFTER ANOTHER
…Last summer, I spent a few days in those spots with Gubianas –a young draftsman and artist influenced by Durero’s or Hokusaí¯’s both animalist and scenic depictions-, who captured in my book Mi Cerdaña Natal the manifold (wide and really fine) aspects from the “light valley of emerald fields, from the amethyst mountains in the diamond circles†–as the poet said-…

A drawing of the Barcelona Cathedral commissioned by Mr. F. Melich.
Dear Sir,
Taking advantage of your knowledge, may I bother you because I was wondering whether you could allow Mr. Jaime Gubianas in your home place. He is a draughtsman and I would like him to take some notes of the magnificent view of the Cathedral perceived from your splendid balcony. I commissioned him some drawings, and it would be to my liking to hold one of those depicting the façade of the Cathedral, a replica with which I fell in love the very same day I visited it.
I am looking forward to hearing from you,
Yours faithfully,
F. Melich
