JAUME GUBIANAS, AT THE MEDITERRANEAN BOOKSHOP
Jaume Gubianas is a bit older, who is not more than eighteen. However, the accuracy, the perfectionism and the realism of his depictions of animals seem to be the fruit of a forty-year-old person’s work. Bears, storks, owls, Chinese geese and other inhabitants worthy of the inhabited area or the Park, such as squirrels and rabbits -and other rodents-, partridges, thrushes and so forth, all of them painted before being cooked, are the chosen subjects by this animalistic novel, self-taught in his first exhibition. In his paintings we can notice the combined details to a maximum degree. Nevertheless, his work generally results cold and inanimate, which amazes us more by its correction and reflection of a patient work – uncharacteristic of a boy of his age- than by its artistic value.

It is amazing the handy design this young painter employs in his drawings, since he is just eighteen and depicts animals with a very attractive and realistic view. A thorough training could bring about a very specialized and praiseworthy distinction.

ARTISTS & EXHIBITIONS
…Haunting themes are treated by Jaume Gubianas with an incredible attention to detail. They lead us to think of those excellent sheets illustrating our grandparents’ natural Stories. It is a thorough and exact work that almost forces us to analyse it from a scientific point of view.  If, on the one hand, the nature of these impeccable pictures (and subtly coloured) reduces the significance of Gubianas’ work; on the other hand, it renders an undeniable charm. There is no room to ask for more intentions so wisely dosed by this painter…

The young comrades, promise and hope.
……….Within these days, he continues with his encouraging job, consisting of a collection of exquisite drawings and watercolours of animals which are exhibited at the Mediterranean Bookshop. He is Jaume Gubianas, another comrade of Frente de Juventudes, whose work -by the way quite humble because of its minor sizes and simplicity- is worthy of both consideration and analysis, which would definitely resist, since it has been tenaciously drawn. Gubianas’ learning is cautious and judicious. Rapidity is not the same than promptness. Attracted by a certain tendency to draw animals, he shows us the most beautiful ones, or in prolonged sessions of public collections, he makes an effort to fix the vivacious grace of their movements and the quality and colour of their fur and plumage. His watercolours undoubtedly repudiate the white colour, though respecting the lights, without possible correction of their location. By this laborious and hard work, the painter’s birds and animals attain an exciting veracity and vigour, which for trained painters is only reachable if resorting to oils………
